The Electronic Cigarette Embargo
By Administrator
I was reading an article today that shocked me. It was an article about the FDA, and how they are being sued for the e-cigarette fiasco that caused multiple shipments of electronic cigarettes to be blocked by the government. The company Smoke-Everywhere filed suit back in April because they believed that the FDA cannot regulate electronic cigarettes the same way that they cannot regulate standard cigarettes.
Both sides of the argument have valid points, and there’s no need for me to get into the details of what they are fighting over. All I can do is interject my two cents.
I think that if the e-cigarettes contain harmful drugs, then they should be regulated; however, based on the claims of the e-cigarette companies, they don’t contain even 1/100th of the chemicals as traditional cigarettes. In fact, they claim to be the healthiest means of nicotine intake aside from the patch. So, with this in mind, why would they want to regulate fake cigarettes over the real-deal, especially since the real deal is so bad for you, not to mention responsible for over 500,000 deaths every year. My theory is that the FDA is nervous that electronic cigarettes will take over the traditional smoking market, which is one of the largest income producers for our tax system.
Not to say that this embargo is a conspiracy or something, it’s just the only reasonable explanation that I can come to based on the small amount of information that I actually read about it. I couldn’t stomach reading more, because it was such a boring article. That’s why I just posted a link to the article and decided not to dive too deep into the topic.
